Weekend ramp closures scheduled for I

Jul 30, 2023

LANSING — Next up on the state highway department's list of things to do in the Lansing region: Close a few ramps at the Lansing Road/Interstate 96 interchange as part of an ongoing bridge project.

Beginning Saturday, the Michigan Department of Transportation said it will close the northbound and southbound ramps from Lansing Road to eastbound I-96, as well as the ramp from eastbound I-96 to northbound Lansing Road. The ramps are expected to be reopened by early Monday.

The closures are tied to a three-year, $44 million revamp of bridges along the freeway in Eaton and Ingham counties.

Crews are rebuilding the bridges over Billwood Highway, the Grand River, M-99 and Washington Avenue. Most of the work is expected to be done in 2023 and 2024, with the project wrapping up in 2025.

Meanwhile, MDOT said it has closed lanes and shifted traffic on U.S. 127 in southern Ingham County as part of a multi-year project to resurface 12.5 miles of the freeway, install guardrails and barrier wall and make other improvements.

All traffic has been shifted to the southbound side of the freeway. MDOT said drivers should find an alternate route, if possible. The scheduled completion date for that project is Nov. 17.
